Australian‑American filmmaker Craig Gillespie made his feature debut with the 2007 comedy‑romance Mr. Woodcock, starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and Susan Sarandon, though the film failed to perform well.

Written by Ana Nogueira, the film received mixed reviews from critics, raising questions about how the Woman of Tomorrow movie cast—several of whom are known for superhero roles—will influence the movie’s overall appeal.

The film adapts DC Comics’ iconic Supergirl, with Milly Alcock portraying Kara Zor‑El—Superman’s cousin—alongside David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman. At the same time, Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl driven to avenge her father’s death at the hands of Krem.

The film features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, the leader of the Brigands; David Krumholtz as Zor-El, a scientist from Krypton and Supergirl’s father; and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Supergirl’s mother. Beecham won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for Little Joe.

Jason Momoa plays Lobo, a ruthless bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. Best known as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Momoa takes on a very different role in this film. The supporting cast includes Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll, Ruthye’s father; Emily Piggford as Delilah Knoll; Bruce Lennox as Emond Knoll; and Wil Coban as Pub Brute. Audrey Brisson and Avye Leventis also appear as Lumpy Alien characters.
