Written and directed by Emily Mortimer, the upcoming directorial debut Dennis has expanded its cast with a trio of fellow British actors.
BAFTA winner Jim Broadbent, Emmy winner Kelly Macdonald, and BAFTA winner Jamie Demetriou lead the cast, alongside rising star Alison Oliver (Wuthering Heights) and Oscar nominee Yura Borisov (Anora).
Written and directed by BAFTA-nominated Mortimer, the film from A24 and Fruit Tree follows Oliver, a British student, and Borisov, a Russian poet, as they fall in love in 1990s Moscow. The project is fully financed by A24, which will also manage its global distribution.
Jim Broadbent won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for Iris (2001). He also holds two BAFTA Awards—one for Moulin Rouge! (Film) and another for the TV movie Longford, for which he additionally received a Golden Globe and an International Emmy.
Kelly Macdonald earned a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in the TV movie The Girl in the Café (2006). She later received a BAFTA Scotland Award for The Victim and has been part of four Screen Actors Guild Award–winning ensembles, recognized for Gosford Park, No Country for Old Men, and Boardwalk Empire.
Jamie Demetriou scored a major triumph at the 2020 BAFTA Awards with his comedy series Stath Lets Flats, winning Best Male Performance in a Comedy, Best Writer: Comedy, and Best Scripted Comedy. His notable credits include television appearances in Fleabag (as “Bus Rodent”) and The Afterparty, as well as film roles in Barbie (as a Mattel Executive), Cruella, Paddington 2, and the upcoming 2025 action feature Back in Action.
The film is produced by Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting through Fruit Tree, alongside Mortimer, Alessandro Nivola, and Lizzie Nastro Adler for King Bee Productions. Executive producers include Joshua Horsfield (Intake), Viktória Petrányi (Proton Cinema), and Jacob Epstein (Lighthouse).
