From ‘Money Heist’ to ‘Past Waters’: Enrique Arce’s Next Big Role Revealed

Enrique Arce and Helena Caldeira star in the upcoming 8-episode psychological thriller series Aguas Pasadas (Past Waters), which was officially announced in February 2026. The project brings together strong creative talent from Spain and Portugal. It is expected to mix mystery, emotional drama, and intense character stories.

The series is directed by Gascon, who also co-wrote it with João Tordo and María Mínguez. It is based on Tordo’s book trilogy and is described as an Iberian co-production. Arce and Caldeira play the lead roles. Their characters are said to be deeply connected to a dark past, which slowly unfolds through the story.

Gascon has been gaining attention in recent years. He recently directed the series Irreversível (2024). His 2021 feature film Shadow (Sombra) was praised internationally and won awards at the Raindance Film Festival and Portugal’s Sophia Awards. His work is known for its emotional depth and strong visual style.

Arce became globally famous for his role in Money Heist, where he played Arturo Román. He has also appeared in major films like Murder Mystery 2 and Terminator: Dark Fate.

Caldeira had her big breakthrough in the Netflix hit Rabo de Peixe (Turn of the Tide). She also earned praise for her performance in the period drama Bloodless Revolution. Together, the three talents are expected to bring strong performances and storytelling to Aguas Pasadas.

Production is handled by Joana Domingues at Portugal’s Caracol Studios and Paloma Mora at Spain’s TV ON Producciones, with filming slated to run from March until the end of June across the Greater Lisbon area and Alcácer do Sal in Portugal, as well as Valencia in Spain.

With showcases at Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, Serielizados Fest, and Iberseries & Platino Industria, the project has steadily built strong industry momentum. Its profile grew even further after being selected for Episodio 0 at Mexico’s Guadalajara International Film Festival, highlighting rising international interest and positioning the series as one of the most anticipated upcoming Iberian productions.
