Netflix Thriller ‘Fast and Loose’ Casts John Swab as Director; Will Smith Stars, Jerry Bruckheimer Produces

Will Smith has a new action movie on the way, and it already feels like a wild ride. The project is called Fast and Loose, and it just landed a fresh director: John Swab, best known for his gritty crime film King Ivory. Adding even more firepower, legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer has joined the team.

This film has been in the works for a while. At one point, Michael Bay was lined up to direct, but he eventually stepped away. According to Deadline, now with John Swab stepping in, the project is finally gaining traction and moving forward. Netflix is developing the film with plans for a wide release, possibly in 2026. That gives Swab plenty of time to craft his vision.

Alongside Smith’s own company, Westbrook Studios, the film is backed by 87North, the team led by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick—the same duo behind John Wick and Bullet Train. That’s a strong pedigree in modern action filmmaking. With Bruckheimer and Swab in the mix, the creative lineup looks both experienced and fresh.

A gripping drama about a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memory. Soon, he discovers he’s been living a double life. In one version, he’s a crime boss with a dangerous reputation. In the other, he’s a deep-cover CIA agent.

Swab might not be a household name yet, but he’s been making noise in the indie film world. His film King Ivory drew strong reviews for its raw look at the fentanyl trade. That kind of gritty style could bring a darker, more grounded edge to Fast and Loose.

Jerry Bruckheimer delivers the kind of action-packed cinema fans crave. He’s the producer behind classics like Bad Boys, Top Gun, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Pairing him with Smith again feels right. Their history with Bad Boys showed how well they can work together.

It’s the kind of project that could bring new heat to Smith’s career, spotlight Swab as a rising director, and give Netflix another action hit to stack against the competition.
