The original 1977 theatrical version of Star Wars: A New Hope is officially returning to cinemas in 2027 to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary. This marks a rare opportunity to see the unaltered classic on the big screen.
The announcement follows the news from this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Japan that the event will light speed-skip to the Los Angeles Convention Centre for the franchise’s big 50th anniversary in 2027.
After an exclusive showing at the BFI earlier this year, the film is now set to be re-released on February 19, 2027.

The 1997 Special Editions of the Original Trilogy, which were reworked and updated by George Lucas Well, this 2027 release will be the original, unaltered theatrical cut. You get the authentic 1977 experience. Han will shoot first again in cinemas. Adding to the excitement, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter—with Ryan Gosling leading the charge—has quickly become one of the franchise’s most talked-about future releases. It’s set to join the 2027 lineup too, landing in theaters on May 28.
