Matt Reeves’ The Batman grossed more than $772 million worldwide against a $185–200 million budget, leading Reeves to begin work on the sequel in late 2022. Filming was initially expected to start in 2024, then delayed to 2025, but it now appears production could finally begin at the end of this month. Fans can reportedly expect shooting to start on May 29 in the UK.
Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Barry Keoghan rumored to return as the Joker. Returning cast members also include Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, the trusted GCPD officer who works closely with Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, Falcone’s former lieutenant and operator of the Iceberg Lounge, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal caretaker and mentor.
The sequel is also expected to introduce new faces, with recent reports suggesting Sebastian Stan may play Harvey Dent, alongside Charles Dance as Christopher Dent and Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent.
Screenwriters Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin are shaping the story, with Warner Bros. Pictures set to bring it to audiences. Backed by DC Entertainment and 6th & Idaho Productions, the project also honors the legacy of Batman’s original creators, Bill Finger and Bob Kane, while Reeves adds his own writing touch. The film is expected to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
