Sean Penn’s seventh directorial effort, currently without a title, will dramatize the experiences of a police officer caught in the January 6 Capitol attack.

Well, we all know Sean Penn for his intense and commanding performances on screen. After making his feature film debut in Taps (1981), he rose to become one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors. Along the way, he earned Academy Awards for his powerful portrayals of a grieving father in Mystic River (2003) and gay rights activist Harvey Milk in Milk (2008), and this year added a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as the corrupt military officer Steven J. Lockjaw in One Battle After Another (2025).

His television credits include playing an astronaut in Hulu’s The First (2018) and embodying John N. Mitchell in Starz’s political thriller Gaslit (2022).

According to Deadline, the project is framed as an ‘unexpected friendship tale,’ with Warner Bros. attached.”

At 65, Sean Penn’s influence extends beyond film; he is highly political, particularly on Ukraine, and previously joined a January 6 House hearing, at that time insisting he was present merely as ‘another citizen’ to observe justice.”
