Focus Features unveils a haunting forest image as the first official look at Robert Eggers’ Werwulf, months after the trailer played at CinemaCon.
The opening trailer begins under a star-lit sky, where villagers gather around blazing flames for a haunting ritual. When Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp arrive in the quiet town, they are met with whispered warnings about a beast that hunts beneath the moonlight. The nightmare then unfolds through disturbing images of terrified faces, desecrated burial grounds, mauled bodies, and brief glimpses of a spectral predator. It ends with Taylor-Johnson undergoing a violent transformation, screaming as foam gathers around his mouth and sharp fangs begin to emerge.
The film is led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, who previously appeared in Shelter(2026), and Willem Dafoe. The ensemble cast also features Ralph Ineson, Lily-Rose Depp, Valeriia Karaman, Jack Morris, and Maisie Greenwood.
Directed by Robert Eggers, the film is written by Eggers and Sjón. The producing team includes Tim Bevan, Garrett Bird, Eggers, Eric Fellner, and Sjón, with Bernard Bellew, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus serving as executive producers.
The trailer embraces Robert Eggers’s signature gothic atmosphere, using striking black-and-white visuals before revealing quick, unsettling glimpses of a werewolf transforming in the shadows.
After earning four Oscar nominations and five BAFTA nominations, Nosferatu proved to be a major success with audiences. With this new project, director Robert Eggers could be on track to deliver another gothic horror masterpiece.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2026.
