Why ‘Off Campus’ Star Mika Abdalla & and Fiance Jake Short Split, End Engagement(Exclusive)

Mika Abdalla and Jake Short have ended their engagement

Mika Abdalla and Jake Short have ended their engagement and parted ways after five years together. Despite the split, the former couple said they will continue to support one another and remain on friendly terms.

“Abdalla’s representative confirmed to Us Weekly, “Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life, it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together.”

In 2021, their romance blossomed after they met during the production of Sex Appeal. Four years after they met, their engagement was confirmed via Instagram.

Before landing a role in Mika’s highly popular Prime Video series Off Campus, a student-life drama based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling novels, Abdalla gained recognition for her performance as Dylan Patterson in An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky. She is also widely known for playing McKeyla McAlister in the Netflix series Project Mc².

Abdalla, who stars as Allie in Off Campus, is currently focused on filming the show’s second season. Based on The Score, Season 2 will center on the romance between Allie and Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn, as their love story takes center stage.

Meanwhile, Jake, notable for performances in A.N.T. Farm (2011), The First Team (2020), and Dexter (2006), came into the world as Jacob Patrick Short on May 30, 1997, in Indianapolis, Indiana. At nine, he relocated to Los Angeles to begin his acting journey.

Before this, Abdalla exclusively told Us Weekly,” Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”

She added “stay true to a lot” of Allie and Dean’s love story.

Abdalla explained that Allie and Hannah’s stories are closely connected, which is why the show spent extra time developing Allie and Dean’s relationship in Season 1. She noted that all of Off Campus books are linked together, so it felt natural to include elements from other stories rather than focusing on just one.

Looking ahead, Abdalla said she is excited to explore the deeper sides of Allie and Dean. While Season 1 mainly showed their fun and confident personalities, she believes there is much more beneath the surface of both characters. She added that she and co-star Stephen Kalyn are eager to dive into their emotional struggles and inner complexities when their story takes center stage.
