Panos Cosmatos is set to return to directing after eight years with the upcoming horror-thriller Flesh of the Gods, which is filming in the Canary Islands, Spain, with additional shooting scheduled in Cologne, Germany.
A24 has picked up the rights, while the movie was announced in 2024 at the Cannes market, where Kristen Stewart, Oscar Isaac, and Elizabeth Olsen were enlisted to star, and Panos Cosmatos as director.
The vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods follows a married couple in 1980s LA who trade their luxurious existence for nocturnal escapades. Drawn to the enigmatic Nameless and his hedonistic entourage, they enter a bizarre world defined by excess, danger, and escalating violence.
Oscar-nominated Kristen Stewart and Golden Globe winner Wagner Moura are set to star together as Alex and Raoul, with Esmé Creed-Miles, known for A Head Full of Ghosts, alongside Roland Møller from Citadel and Alba Baptista from Voltron, also joining the cast.
Golden Globe winner Wagner Moura replaces Oscar Isaac as the lead, who stepped away due to scheduling conflicts. In the 2025 political thriller film The Secret Agent, Moura’s performance as a former professor in this movie made history. Moura shattered boundaries, becoming the first South American to win Cannes Best Actor, the first Brazilian to win Golden Globe Best Actor, and the nation’s first Oscar nominee in the category.
The film is written by Andrew Kevin Walker, best known for Se7en, and is based on a story by Panos Cosmatos and Walker, with production by A24 Television, Augenschein Filmproduktion, and Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.
