
A decade after Train to Busan, Yeon Sang-ho returns to electrify audiences with Colony, Out of Competition at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
This time, Yeon shows us Se-jeong (Jun Ji-hyun), a biotechnology professor. who is attending a cutting‑edge biotech event. Disaster strikes: a mutating virus breaks loose. With the outbreak spiraling and the infected changing rapidly, officials seal the building to contain the nightmare.
Director Yeon Sang-ho, winner of the Fantasia and Busan awards, is known for his thriller and zombie-horror films, and his upcoming movie ‘Colony’ carries the zombie genre. The movie came together with the director and Jeon( choreographer, monsters’ movements for Peninsula).
The film brings together a stellar cast: Jun Ji-hyun as Se Jeong, Koo Kyo-hwan as Seo Yeong Cheol, Ji Chang-wook as Choi Hyeon Seok, with Kim Shin-rok as Choi Hyeon Hui, Shin Hyun-been as Kong Seol Hui, and Go Soo as Han Gyu Seong.
In Yeon Sang-ho’s worldwide sensation Train to Busan, Gong Yoo plays Seok-woo, a father taking his daughter Soo-an (Kim Su-an) to see her mother. Their journey turns into a desperate fight for survival when a zombie virus spreads across South Korea, confining terrified passengers on the train to Busan. The ensemble also features Jung Yu-mi as Seong-kyeong, Ma Dong-seok as Sang-hwa, Kim Eui-sung as Yon-suk, Choi Woo-sik as Yong-guk, and Sohee as Jin-hee.
The film is scheduled to release on May 21, 2026, in South Korea.
